The Central sterile supply Department (CSSD) of the Medical College Hospitals functions round the clock. Our  CSSD is one of the very few such sophisticated departments in kerala which has been adjudged as an excellent sterile methodology to ensure 100%  sterilization immunity for the surgical instruments utilized in OT Complex. With the help of a ultrasonic machine all the un sterile instruments transferred are cleaned using enzymatic solution. Then these instruments are again subjected to an hot air oven treatment for  final cleaning. In the setting area all the instruments are arranged with a chemical indicator inside the package to identify the quality of sterility. In addition, the package includes a checklist which indicated the details of the instruments inside it for a check at the receiving end. There are four different types of autoclave machines to ensure high quality sterilization of the instrument. In addition there is an ethlin oxide machine for advanced sterilization process. Sterile and unsterile lifts are used to send and receive the materials separately in and out of OT which guarantees that no contamination takes place.
