Department of Gastroenterology, in MES medical College is actively involved in patient care, teaching and research activities. The Department provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic services and inpatient facilities for complicated and serious gastrointestinal and pediatric gastrointestinal disorders. Special techniques available include: i) Upper and Lower GI endoscopy (OGD scopy and Colonoscopy) ii) diagnostic and therapeutic biliary and pancreatic endoscopic procedures like papillotomy, biliary stenting, pancreatic duct stenting, etc., iii) endoscopic variceal sclerotherapy and ligation, iv) endoscopic polypectomy, v) hemorrhoid banding, vi) endoscopic esophageal dilation and stent placement, and vii) percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. The Department is also active in the field of Pediatric Gastroenterology. The department has also been providing medical services to inpatients in other department for their gastrointestinal and hepatic need. 

The Department has been active in imparting its know-how to the medical community through several continuing medical education programmes, workshops, etc. It has pursued its interest in scientific communication and teaching methodology through periodic workshops.

Therapeutic facilities include endoscopic sclerotherapy, band ligation, and esophageal dilation and endo prosthesis placement Diagnostic facilities include endoscopy, ERCP etc
