One among the largest clinical departments with a bed strength of 120 the Department of General Medicine of MES Medical College Hospital occupies the entire two wards of our hospital.There is in addition a well equipped Medical Intensive Care Unit with 20 beds. The department is headed by a highly qualified retired Professor of Calicut Medical college .He along with three professors (all retired faculties from Calicut Medical college) form the backbone of the department which comprises of four units,each headed by one of them, ably assisted by a group of efficient and enthusiastic senior and junior level faculty and full-time consultants.The department conducts weekly academic gatherings and CMEs. A CME on recent advances in Rheumatology,first of its kind was a well attended academic feast.We conduct Rheumatology and Diabetology clinics in addition to routine teaching schedules (including theory classes and clinical classes) .We give extreme priority to impart in-patient and out-patient care with all diligence and promptness.

An infection control team has been formulated headed by a microbiologist and supported by doctors from important other disciplines. This team is conducting effective precautionary measures to prevent nosocomial infections to patients and employees. This has improved the hygiene content and quality inside the hospital.
