The Department of Paediatrics is a multifaceted Department with well developed sub-specialties of Neonatology,Genetics ,Gastroenterology & Hepatology,Nephrology,Endocrinology,Oncology,infectious diseases,Rheumatology and Pumonology. There are also Paediatric Intensive Care and Neo-natal Intensive care Units. We also caters to the registration and confinement of high risk pregnancies .The department is supported by the services of highly experienced and proficient professors,senior and junior residents and research staff.
We also offer counseling to parents who have children with genetic problems. Another area where we give thrust is early intervention program for Down syndrome. We are also running a well baby clinic &immunisation clinic. All vaccine recommended by Indian Academy Paediatrics (IAP) are available in this clinic.
BFHI program jointly launched by the UNICEF and WHO in the year of 1992 stands for promotion of and protection of exclusive breast feeding practices. It is recommended that all the infants must be fed on Breast milk until they are six months and continued to be breast fed until two years or beyond, which helps in reduction in infant and neonatal mortality and malnutrition.
As a part of BFHI program, behavior change communication campaign was organized with the support of UNICEF and IAP Kerala in the months of January and February 2011 for declaring the MES Medical College Hospital Model BFHI hospital.
